Medical Lab Technology

Overview

Medical lab technicians/technologists-MLT- collaborate with other healthcare professionals such as physicians, surgeons, nurses, dentists, and pharmacists to evaluate, monitor, and assess a patient`s health situation, allowing doctors and others to devise a course of treatment and plan appropriate care arrangements for the patient. Today`s medical laboratory science practitioner must be both theoretically sound and practically effective in his chosen field.

The MLT is trained in the detection of various diseases as well as the operation of electrical and electronic lab equipment. MLT is also taught how to keep a patient record and monitor a patient`s progress. Among the responsibilities are

All body fluids are evaluated, as are the procedures for extracting samples and analyzing those fluids.

Examining various body tissues, sample acquisition and preparation methods, staining, and microscopic examination

Examining various blood cells and diagnosing any changes or pathology.

Blood composition, hormones, enzymes, and drug levels are all measured using biochemistry tests.

Blood grouping and cross-matching in the event of a blood transfusion in an emergency or trauma.

Identification of microbiological pathogens affecting the human body, including all viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens that cause infections.

A good Medical Laboratory technician/ technologist has good communication skills, analytical and problem-solving abilities, and a desire to accept change and work under pressure. By saving lives and dragging patients out of their misery, the work of a technologist/ technician provides respect and job satisfaction.

Radiology & Medical Image Technology

Overview

Radiology technicians create clear and accurate images of the body, allowing doctors to diagnose and treat medical conditions that would be difficult to document otherwise. Technicians use advanced imaging technology such as X ray, mammography, computerized axial tomography (CAT), and positron emission tomography (PET) scan devices. These specialists ensure the production of high-quality images by guiding patients through each step of their medical imaging procedures.

Technicians educate patients on each step of the medical imaging process. They also play an important role in calming down patients who are worried about the procedure. Radiology technicians position patients correctly and protect them from overexposure after instructing them to remove any jewelry, clothing, or other items that could interfere with the equipment.

Radiology technicians review the results of their work with radiologists and take additional views as needed after focusing the equipment and capturing the images on digital files or films. A radiology technician may also be in charge of updating patient records and keeping the imaging equipment in good working order.

Programme Objectives

Radiologic technologists are radiology technicians who have advanced through continuing education and training or who have obtained additional training and education prior to entering the field. Many radiology technologists specialize in a specific diagnostic test, such as mammography, and those who have more than one specialty are highly sought after by employers. Regardless of the level of training technician or technologist or specialization, the precision work of these professionals enables physicians to accurately and confidently diagnose and treat a wide range of health concerns.

Radiography is concerned with the operation and interpretation of radio imaging machines such as X rays. Radiology technologists aid in diagnosis and management by creating images using medical imaging modalities such as X ray, ultrasound, and others.

Career Scope

In general, you can work as a Radiologist, Radiology Technician, Ultrasound Technician, Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, MRI Technician, CT Tech, CAT Tech, or CT Technologist after earning a degree in this field.

Dialysis Technology

Overview

Dialysis technology is a subspecialty of nephrology (care of the kidneys). Dialysis is a treatment option for people who have temporary or permanent kidney failure. Dialysis is the only renal replacement therapy available for patients with moderate to severe renal diseases, other than kidney transplantation. It is a life-saving emergency procedure.

B.Voc in Dialysis Technology enables technicians to efficiently monitor and operate dialysis machines. Dialysis technicians prepare post-treatment reports in addition to preparing patients and monitoring dialysis treatment. They are also taught how to use specialized equipment.

Students at EXIN are educated on various diagnostic and treatment perspectives of dialysis machinery. Students learn about basic anatomy and physiology, dialysis machines, prescription interpretation, safety and sanitation, emergency interventions, and so on. They also have the opportunity to complete internships at well-known hospitals.

Programme Objectives

During this course, students will learn about blood chemistry, dialysis principles, kidneys, dialysis systems, devices, and much more. Throughout the course, students will learn how to use various dialysis equipment to aid in the treatment of patients. It incorporates new technology and techniques into the dialysis process, opening up a slew of new options for those who require dialysis on a regular basis.

The primary goal of the program is to produce competent technicians capable of making a significant difference in the life or death of someone suffering from renal failure. To provide theoretical understanding, the  Dialysis program combines theory, practice, and clinical exposure. Human anatomy and physiology, renal diseases, other major disorders, blood chemistry, and other topics are covered.

Career Scope

Dialysis graduates with the necessary skills and qualifications are in short supply in the industry, which can be remedied by completing the program. Aside from looking for work, one can pursue a career in teaching or further their education in the field.

After completing the course, aspirants may find employment in a variety of government and private hospitals, as well as outpatient clinics, research and educational institutes, and freestanding dialysis centers. Careers in this field are expected to grow with time, expertise, and experience. They can work as a Nephrologist, a dialysis therapist, a dialysis assistant, a medical laboratory assistant, a medical technician, or a dialysis technician.
