The originality of ideas is another essential aspect that interior designers should possess. Excellent drawing is not one of the most important skills for this profession. Good listening and communication skills are also required to understand accurately the client`s needs. Interior designers also need to keep in touch with industry requirements. Interior design mainly caters  designs for the decoration of rooms, buildings and built environments to provide it an aesthetic outlook in general. The effective research and planning on the design of exterior of buildings is also a major concern of Interior designing.  . It is an art that put focus on the scientific and logical use of space, architecture and design to transform the built environment into more attractive, pleasing and ultimately more useful to human beings.

Architecture and creative design work hand-in-hand with integrity to provide an effective layout of the desired built environment. For example, only in the case of a residential area designing a designer has to face and cultivate different types of design ideas. A living area requires a well-designed, soothing, peaceful interior while drawing rooms, kitchen areas, and balconies hold a requirement of different types of spatial arrangement according to client needs on the basis of the principles of the science of architecture or `Vaastu`. Furniture designs, Colouring techniques, Product designs, etc. add an artistic touch to the design planning which in turn provides the built environment with a sophisticated creative outlook and optimum utility of space. Simultaneously, different types of buildings like offices, hospitals, hotels, shopping malls, clubs, bars, and movie theatres each occupy a unique style pattern of exteriors. So, the ground preparation of the exteriors is designed in a scientific technique complemented by logical arrangements to give it the best possible impactful designs.

Packaging Design

Overview

Packaging design is a multi-disciplinary field that considers functional aspects such as maintaining and protecting its contents from damage;  transportation, manufacturing;  Distribution on the surface of the package, and graphic design elements result in bound communication.  This introductory course will address the basic elements and principles of packaging design.  Emphasis is placed on understanding aspects of form and composition;  Basic design’s considerations for graphic design elements on the surface of the package.  This will include the study of package construction – primary and secondary packages – and how products are effectively designed and presented on shelves.

Packaging design is the process of designing product packaging so that a product can be safely contained, identified, and delivered. Whether it’s a McDonald’s food box, Apple’s iPhone packaging, the box your new fridge comes in or even a tea bag, almost every product in the store has packaging.

Packaging design involves designing and creating a product’s container and how it looks to the customers who might purchase it.  This is why you usually see a cartoon character on cereal geared toward children, while adult cereal boxes may have fresh fruit displayed on them.

Packaging design is the process of allowing your packaging to fulfill a wide range of functions.  It has to be functional, hold your product, and be able to transport and store it.  It needs to differ in some way from your competitors’ packaging, as well as appeal to in-store and online customers.

Programme Objectives

In recent times, with the globalization of markets and trade, the role of packaging has assumed greater importance in the marketing and distribution of agricultural products, value-added products, industrial products, and mass-produced consumer goods.  Consequently, there is a demand for technically competent cadres who can handle design, development, manufacturing, and quality control, along with the effective use of modern packaging technology.  India has more than 7,000 organized industrial units and about 4,50,000 small industries that use or manufacture packaging materials and require qualified technical personnel.

Career Scope

The curriculum is so designed that the successful candidates would be well-equipped in all major facets of packaging activities and will be easily employable in package manufacturing, packaging machinery manufacturing, or user industries like food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and others. With experience, they can also aspire to be self--employed professionals/entrepreneurs in their field.

·         Packaging Designer

Multimedia & Creative Design

Overview

In defining multimedia, Margaret Rouse states that it involves the use of more than one presentation mediums to communicate with an audience. Thus rather than incorporating text or sound, multimedia would incorporate the use of two presentation formats such as text and sound. In addition to melding formats such as text and sound, multimedia can incorporate the simultaneous use of the following mediums:

  • Text, sound, and animated images
  • Text, sound, and images from videos
  • Sound and video

Multiple display areas, presentations, and/or images presented at the same time

Although one may notice a convergence between multimedia and traditional film or motion pictures, the scale of production is generally less expensive and smaller for the former mode of presentation.  Additionally, multimedia can incorporate audience involvement, in which case it becomes a form of interactive multimedia.  Interactive elements used in multimedia can include things like text entry, voice commands, touch screens, mouse manipulation, live participation, and user video capture.

Graphic and multimedia designers design information materials for visual and audio communication, publication, and display using print, film, electronic, digital, and other forms of visual and audio media.

While multimedia encompasses the use of multiple media for presenting information or entertainment, web graphics uses visual representation for this purpose.  Thus while multimedia involves the synergistic use of at least two modes of information transmission, web graphics may include only one: visual images.  Additionally, web graphics are designed specifically to be displayed on an Internet site, whereas a multimedia presentation may exist in the form of a movie, PowerPoint presentation, interactive DVD, CD-ROM, and more.

Another interesting difference between the worlds of multimedia and web graphics is the career opportunities in the respective fields.  For example, a person who works as a multimedia artist is responsible for creating visuals and animations for television, video games, movies, and other media formats.  On the other hand, a web graphic designer works by creating visual concepts that will be displayed on a website.  As mentioned earlier, the difference between the two fields is that the former involves the use of multiple communication platforms (visual, animation, etc.) while the latter involves a single presentation (visual).

Programme Objectives

The Multimedia Design and Development Diploma program offers the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive multimedia design education where you will develop a range of interactive digital media production skills, including web design, mobile interface design, experience design, motion graphics, 2D animation, web coding, and more.  Streaming, user testing, video and sound editing, user interface prototyping, digital storytelling, and interactive design. Through this hands-on learning process, you will develop the fundamental creative and technical multimedia design and development skills required for employment in videography, motion graphics, web design, and interactive content development.

Under the guidance of experienced and knowledgeable professors, you will learn and become proficient in industry-standard software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Xd, Audition, Adobe Animate, and Premiere.  Web technologies such as HTML5, Extensible Markup Language (XML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS3), JavaScript, jQuery and Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP), and MySQL are employed in hands-on learning situations in our applied learning environment with relevant industry projects.

You will develop important collaborative teamwork and project management skills through group assignments.  It will prepare you for collaborative projects in the field and help you gain a real-world perspective on the nature of multimedia work.

You will be prepared to pursue new media opportunities by developing a comprehensive portfolio that you can present to potential employers or clients and gain exposure to the entrepreneurial opportunities open to professionals in this rich field. Students in this program will also develop real-world user experience skills through usability labs and work placements.
