Overview

With the over-enveloping spread of digital media and widespread access to information and communication technology, the scope of luxury and fashion has increased manifold. In the modern age, clothing and accessories does not solely fulfill utilitarian purpose but satisfy the aesthetic needs of an individual. Youngsters of today seek self-expression like never before and these creative courses provide an outlet for such instincts.

 The much coveted  fashion designing course is no longer viewed as a distant dream .The course shall nurture the innate creative talent of the students so that he will be able to emerge as an autonomous individual with the ability to think independently .

Students are enlightened about various historic fashion and arts movements and how they have a bearing on contemporary fashion .The students are taught problem solving skills and how to work within the budget .They are exposed to different areas of research and shall learn design vocabulary which provides the framework for this course. Students undergo live experiences so that a fair mixture of theoretical and practical is included in the learning structure.

The aim of this course is to give the student an introductory learning experience of the fundamental creative processes of fashion design development as related to 2D and 3D skills and practices within the context of the discipline. As the first in a six‐course core sequence, students will begin to identify and understand the importance of primary research and balancing the technical with the aesthetic .This course aims to give the student an exploratory introduction to 2D vocabularies: via digital and traditional drawing methods.

As the first in a two‐course core sequence, students will begin to identify and understand proportion, scale, silhouette and surface manipulation, and use appropriate tools and media .Creative Technical Lab is supportive of Integrated Design Studio and gives the student additional skills/techniques within 3D execution. As the first in a four‐course core sequence, students will begin to identify and understand the systems and processes associated with 2D to 3D development and resolution. This will allow students to become immersed in the key elements of process, material, and technical investigation as an underpinning to 3D design realization.

 This course examines history of fashion and its capacity as both a reflection of and an influence on the cultural conditions of its respective time period. In its entirety, students should gain a greater perspective on the historical, social, economic, and industrial precursors and contexts to contemporary fashion’s design, consumption, production, image, tastes, and trends. This seminar course is supplemented by field trips and guest speakers. Coursework will be comprised of group and independent research, written papers, and oral presentations.

A successful design practitioner should have a thorough knowledge and practical experience before emerging into the professional domain. The main purpose is to nurture the capabilities and creative talents to such an extent that they will be able to push the boundaries of the creative arena in the rapidly growing apparel industry. We have created an innovative method of teaching and learning which would sharpen the skills of the students.

The course is designed to inculcate the ability to help develop the process of creative critical thinking and translate it into good work. Diagramming, drawing, model-making, sketching and illustration is taught which will trigger creative conceptual thinking. Research, analysis, conceptualization and programming will be stressed through the modules of the course.

The students are also equipped to understand how to handle tools efficiently,the proper techniques and how to operate machines safely while using materials. Extensive knowledge on materials, forms and colour is imbibed in the students and a thorough exposure to client, market and costing is delivered to the students to make them professionally equipped for their professional path.

Skills You Learn

Draping is one of the important fashion design skills that is taught at EXIN.  Draping involves the draping of various types of fabrics over different forms. it might include draping satin over a human shaped torso and creating a dress which is fastened only with ties or pins. Stitches are not used in case of  draping .Students  also learn pattern drafting skills that involves creating, drawing, and cutting a pattern  Students will become skilled in creating finished designs from the patterns and will also learn how to alter completed designs .Learning how to organize, market, and produce fashion shows are other skills which is taught at EXIN. Classes are also given on event planning and trend forecasting as well.

Skills that must be mastered to be successful include keeping abreast of current fashion trends. Students  learn how to design and construct garments. Students must also learn how to organize fashion show events including how to market them. Students must be creative and learn how to envision original creations .

They are trained on how to copy and improve upon existing designs. One typically enters the fashion design world as an assistant and then works their way up to a head designer position. They can specialize in a particular garment such as skirts or a particular genre such as theatrical costumes .Good people skills are taught as well as good organizational and business skills.

 The fashion industry is often fast paced and highly charged. One is taught how to deal with buyers, sellers, models, and celebrity designers. EXIN gives its students an opportunity to acquire a high degree of competency in design and technical skills appropriate to the fashion industry. With the wide variety of projects, presentations, papers and seminars, students are able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the various components of fashion designing.
